Betsy Ross is primarily known for the widely believed (though not historically proven) story that she made the first American flag. While the Continental Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes on June 14, 1777, Betsy Ross is celebrated for her role in designing and possibly creating the flag. She is also remembered for her skills as an upholsterer and seamstress. The Betsy Ross flag features the traditional 13 red and white stripes along with a blue field with 13 white stars arranged in a circle.
